On the backdrop of the survey conducted by Marriott International for its customers, in which it stated Tibet, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau were listed as individual nations, China has shut the site down.
The hotel group has apologized for the error and stated that it does not support separatist movements in China and did not mean it in the survey also.
China takes self-ruling Taiwan as a breakaway province and Tibet as an autonomous region, while Hong Kong and Macau are special administrative regions of China.
Marriott also “liked” a post made by a group supporting a separatist Tibet.
Marriott has over 100 hotels in the country under different brands. Last year itself the hotel group launched a joint travel venture with China’s ecommerce giant Alibaba.
